Emīls Ķīlis successfully passed his PhD 29 June 2015
Fiscal discipline council colleagues welcome and are proud for Emīls Ķīlis successfully passed PhD!
"On June 16 I successfully passed my PhD viva. Even though I was a doctoral student at the Department of Sociology (Lancaster Univeristy), the theoretical framework for my thesis came from the interdisciplinary field of science and technology studies, which has a significant presence at Lancaster. My main focus was actor-network theory and its assumptions about science and the proper way to study it. The aim of my thesis was to highlight a number of ambiguities in the analytical framework of actor-network theory, using sociology as my example. My examiners were John Urry and Stephen Park Turner. The viva itself was a difficult and challenging experience, but both examiners provided useful suggestions and their comments will greatly enhance the clarity of my main ideas", says Council fiscal risks expert Emīls Ķīlis.
