The Fiscal Council re-elects Jānis Platais to the position of Chairman

In accordance with Section 26, Part 1 of the Fiscal discipline law (hereafter – FDL), the Council re-elected Jānis Platais to the position of Chairman, and Ingars Eriņš to the position of Vice-Chairman. The law allows for a re-appointment for a period of three years.

Since the Council was established, Jānis Platais has ensured productive cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and clearly identified issues relating to the planning and execution of the state budget, as envisaged by the FDL. In addition, recommendations as to the rectification of the issues in question have always been provided. J. Platais has made a significant contribution to strengthening the Council’s reputation by representing the Council both nationally and internationally.

Council Vice-Chairman Ingars Eriņš has participated in Cabinet and Saeima committee meetings on numerous occasions. He has presented the Council’s opinion, elaborated upon the claims made in the Council’s reports and emphasised the importance of fiscal discipline during the planning and execution of the budget.
