PhD, Martins Kazaks
Mārtiņš Kazāks is Chief Economist for Swedbank in Latvia since 2005, and since 2010 also Group Deputy Chief Economist for Swedbank. He is one of the most quoted economists in Latvia. He holds BSc in Economics from University of Latvia, Diploma in Economics from University of Cambridge, MSc (with Distinction) and PhD in Economics from Queen Mary University of London. His major research interests are in the area of exchange rate economics and applied time series econometrics.
He has been a lecturer and an assistant professor at Stockholm School of Economics in Riga from 1996 to 2008. Mārtiņš was a member of the Strategic Analysis Commission from 2006 to 2011, a think tank under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Latvia. As of January 1 2014, he is a member of the Fiscal Council of Latvia. On 22 December 2016 Saeima has approved Mārtiņš Kazāks as the Fiscal Council member for the second term. Till 21 June 2018 he was a member of the Fiscal Council of Latvia and the Head of Potential and nominal gross domestic product assessment working group.
